HOW TO: Apply For Jobs

Summary: Apply for staff job opportunities at UC Irvine.

What you, the applicant, should doHow you should do it
1Access the Web and review the job openings.
  1. Access Staff Job Listings. New jobs are posted daily. If you are interested in temporary staff positions, select 'Temporary Positions' in the job listing or review the guidelines on applying for temporary work.

  2. Carefully review the qualifications and apply only for those positions you are qualified for.

    If you do not have access to a computer, you may use a computer in the Human Resources lobby. Visit the office at Suite 1000, Berkeley Place, Irvine CA 92697 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Please note that we cannot accept fax or paper copies of resumes.
2Submit your resume.
  1. Select a job opening. You may apply by doing one of the following:
    • Utilize our online application system, by cutting and pasting your resume, OR
    • Simply complete the online application, OR
    • E-mail (jobs@uci.edu) your resume, attaching it as a text file. Enter the 8-digit requisition number(s) in the subject line of your e-mail.
  2. The fastest way to be considered for a position is to apply online or to e-mail your resume, indicating the requisition number(s) that you are applying for.
  3. Fully disclose on your resume/application all of the skills you possess to perform the job.
  4. Please send only your resume. Do not send references, publications or other materials. These will not be considered at the time of application.

3Keep track of jobs you applied for.
  1. Keep a copy of the job summary and job description for openings you have applied for, in the event you are called for an interview.
4Wait to be contacted.
  1. The Hiring department will contact those candidates that most closely meet the requirements for the position.

    If you are not contacted, you may assume that other candidates with stronger backgrounds and skills were selected.
5Follow-up on status.
  1. Contact the recruiter whose name is listed on the posted job announcement to determine the status of the position at any time. For more information, call (949) 824-5210.
  2. Due to the volume of resumes that are received, Human Resources is not able to respond to everyone individually.
6Note necessary information and prepare for the interview.
  1. If you are called for an interview, make sure you find out who you are interviewing with, the time, the location, where you should park, and the phone number in case you need to contact them.

    Remember to bring extra resumes, as well as any letters of recommendation.
