Business Officer Institute (UC BOI)

Summary: This systemwide institute was developed by the Office of the President for UC employees.

The UC BOI provides a core educational program for UC business managers to:
  • Ensure that business management practices are responsive to the complex and changing UC environment;
  • Establish consistent management techniques and increased accountability in the conduct of UC business in order to minimize legal and institutional risk;
  • Enhance management skills to provide leadership in positioning UC for sustained excellence.

Participants
  • Those who have responsibility for managing key UC resource areas in which a high degree of accountability, knowledge, and skill are required. Examples include management services officers, unit managers, and department administrators.
  • Business officers in academic units are especially encouraged to attend, but participation is open to those from non-academic units as well.

Scheduled Dates and Location
December 1-3, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency, Newport Beach, CA.

UC BOI is offered once per year, alternating locations in northern and southern California each year.

Program Costs
  • The Office of the President (UCOP) covers most of the costs of the Institute including all breakfasts and lunches on December 1, 2, and 3
  • UCOP does NOT cover the cost of travel, parking, dinners on December 1 and 2 and incidental hotel expenses such as telephone and internet charges.
  • UCOP does NOT pay for lodging for UCI participants except in cases where the participant lives more than 40 miles from the hotel. You must notify and receive pre-approval from the Campus Coordinator [contact Nancy Chen Lane, nclane@uci.edu, (949) 824-6283] to receive exception accommodations.

To Apply

Submit a UC Business Officer Institute online application by Friday, October 16, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants will be notified of their application status via e-mail by Friday, October 23, 2009.
  • Once you have selected the online application link above, you will be directed to the "Welcome, please sign in" page of the NACS Electronic Education Environment Survey Tool web page
  • In the upper right hand corner of the page is a box titled "Your EEE Account"; select "Secure Sign In'
  • Login using your UCINetID and password
  • Review information and instructions and submit your online application

Orientation for Selected Participants
If you are selected to attend, you are strongly encouraged to attend the UC BOI Orientation on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at the HR Training Room (111 Theory, Suite 200)
